Michael Rosbash
US chronobiologist and recipient of the Nobel Prize in Medicine 2017
The same biological clock ticks away in humans and fruit flies, which underscores the importance of circadian timing to life on this planet. Indeed, we now know that this clock affects almost all aspects of human physiology”.
Michael Rosbash is the winner of the 2017 Nobel Prize in Medicine for his discovery of the molecular mechanisms that control circadian rhythms, which regulate key functions such as behavior, hormone levels, sleep, body temperature and metabolism. This research was carried out in collaboration with the professors Michael W. Young and Jeffrey C. Hall.
With a PhD in biology from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), Rosbash is the head of a laboratory that bears his name at Brandeis University, and is also an investigator with the Howard Hughes Medical Institute. His work is focused on RNA processing and molecular neurobiology.
