Ramón Latorre, recipient of Chile’s 2002 National Award in Natural Sciences, holds a PhD in science from the Universidad de Chile. He is presently president of the board of the Millennium Institute-Interdisciplinary Center of Neuroscience of Valparaíso, and is a tenured professor at the Institute of Neuroscience at the Universidad de Valparaíso.
He is also an associate academic of the University of Chicago (United States), and an adjunct professor at the University of California, Los Angeles (United States). He is also a member of the board of the Latin American Academy of Sciences, a foreign associate member of the US National Academy of Sciences, and a member of the Chilean Academy of Sciences. Among his honors he was the 2007 recipient of the Prize on Science and Technology awarded by the Government of Mexico.
