Andrés Navas

With a Ph.D. in mathematics from École Normale Supérieure (Lyon), France and post-doctoral work at Institut des Hautes Études Scientifiques (Paris), Andrés Navas is a professor at Universidad de Santiago and the president of the Chilean Mathematics Society. His research focuses on algebraic aspects of chaos theory, and he is the author of Groups of Circle Diffeomorphisms (University of Chicago Press) and co-author of Groups, Orders and Dynamics (American Mathematical Society). In 2013 he received the Consejo Matemático de las Américas Award, and in 2016 he was honored with the prestigious UMALCA award, from the Unión Matemática de América Latina y el Caribe. His popular nonfiction book Un viaje a las ideas (A voyage to the world of ideas) was one of Chile’s top-selling scientific books of 2017.
